What is “The Connection”?

The Connection is a Saturday night gathering with casual/friendly atmosphere and great music for those who seek an opportunity to improve their English skill, as well as passion and purposes for their lives.

The Connectionでは、アメリカ人の牧師が、普段の私たちの生活の疑問や問題に関わる実践的なメッセージを英語で語ります。リスニングのトレーニングになるよう、配布されるトランスクリプトは穴埋め式になっています。また英語力の上達だけでなく、その能力を生かしてどのような人生を生きていくのかを考えるヒントを与えてくれる場所でもあります。カジュアルでフレンドリーな雰囲気の中、同じように人生の目的や進むべき道を探している仲間たちとconnectし、本当の自分とconnectできる場所です。土曜夜に不定期（約１ヶ月に１回）で開催中です。一人でも、お友達とでも、是非気軽に来てみて下さい。

About the speakers:

Gary Snavely

Gary Snavely has been a teaching pastor for the last 30+ years. He has lived in various parts of the United States. For the last 16 years he served a church in the state of Oregon. The church increased from around 140 members to almost 1,000 members when Gary left.

He left to pursue a new field and kind of ministry in Japan. He has a passion for people who do not know God. His desire is to be a part of a new kind of movement in Japan that helps connect people with God.

He is here for the next two to three years.

He lives in Sayamagaoka. Gary rents a small apartment from Teru and Hiroe Hiyama. Teru and Hiroe operate the Orange Café Church out of their home.

Gary is also an artist and works in both watercolor and oil.

Kathy Oyama

Kathy Oyama has been interacting with Japan since she was a high school student. She majored in Japanese Studies at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, and spent her junior year at Waseda University. While there, she attended Seisho Kirisuto Kyoukai and met Seiji Oyama, who is her husband of twenty years. She has four children, Naomi—18, Emi—15, Yuji—13, and Kumi—12.

Kathy has been an ESL teacher, a tutor, a cooking teacher, a business woman, a teacher and a pastor over her adult life. She loves to tell funny stories that make you think and jokes and puns to help you remember important ideas. Her definition of a successful presentation is that it should provide both encouragement and challenge the people who listen.

When you come, you can expect:
